Tracy
As the end of the school year approaches, Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa and the InSchool Mentoring Program is excited to announce its annual winners for The Robert Allen InSchool Mentoring Award for the 2008-2009 academic year. This award has been annually given out for the past 4 years to students who have participated in the InSchool Mentoring Program. The award recognizes students who have displayed an overall improvement as a result of their participation in the program. It is not meant to be an academic award; rather it serves to recognize the Littles overall non-academic improvement from participating in the mentoring relationship with their Mentor.

The winners for 2008-2009 are:

Tim

Tim has shown great improvements since being matched with Big Brother Matt. The time spent with Matt is the highlight of Tim's week. Tim has become more confident and is happier in participating in school projects. His new sense of self worth has also translated into Tim making better decisions and even mentoring younger kids in his class.

Jordan

He is described as being someone who had a difficult time academically but since being matched with his Big Brother Jason, has shown great improvements in relationship with peers and teachers. As well, his relationship with Jason has brought out a happier Jordan that is now enjoying school and spending his weekly one hour visit with his Big Brother.

Cassandra

Cassandra has blossomed from the relationship with her Big Sister Julie. She has become a happier and more confident child. Julie has helped create a love for learning. Furthermore, Cassandra has developed a stronger sense of self worth and throughout the year has actively participated in extracurricular activities, something she would not have done without the guidance and support of Big Sister Julie.

Benjamin

From the eyes of his Big Sister, Benjamin has grown leaps and bounds. His behaviour with his classmates as well as his Big Sister has dramatically changed. He has shown a compassion and kindness towards his peers and has developed a heightened sense of self confidence. Big Sister Alexandre believes that Benjamin has greatly benefited from the InSchool Mentoring Program, a program that has helped create a relaxing learning environment.
