Volunteer Canada writes "Canada's volunteers are real-life superheroes who accomplish remarkable feats with real impact. They may not be faster than a speeding bullet. And they may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. But their contributions are most definitely creating community change that is more powerful than a locomotive!" This is the perfect description for the roles our volunteers play at Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa!
In 2010, over 500 volunteers - Bigs, Board Members, Committee Members and event day volunteers donated over 58,080 hours! What an incredible amount of dedication shown by every individual who gives of themselves to us. Whether it's going for a bike ride, balancing our budget, approving policies, taking tickets or handing out hot dogs, every volunteer makes a BIG impact in the life of one of our Littles.
The work of our volunteers sometimes comes with challenges and can at times goes without recognition. However, we are always excited to be able to highlight some of the incredible contributions made during our Big Wrap Up event.
BBBSO Gratitude Awards are presented yearly to volunteers who have made a significant contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa. Each in his or her own unique way has helped the Bigs and Littles that we have just recognized as well as the over 1100 children that we serve, achieve success.
Alexandre Malboeuf, a young man, who in addition to being a Little (not so Little any more!) was also the Co-Chair for the 2010 Buddy Up Campaign along with Police Chief Vern White. As part of the Campaign, Alexandre was a true spokesperson for the agency when it came to presenting, media and providing quotes for the campaign. Alexandre also became a top fundraiser, by running his own Buddy Up Campaign. In addition to all of that, Alexandre has been an Ambassador for BBBSO since 2009, he even addressed some MP's on Parliament Hill.
In addition to all of that, Alexandre pulled together a Team "Makes a Difference" for the Bowl for Kids Sake Event back in February.
Alexandre always says "It does Make a Difference", when speaking about his own experience with his Big Brother of 8 years, Marc. Today, we want to thank you Alexandre for the difference you have made.
Congratulations Alexandre!
