J’aime prendre le temps de témoigner de la différence qu’un(e) Grand(e) peut faire dans la vie d’un jeune même s’ils ne réalisent que des activités simples ensemble.  Il est important que quelqu’un prenne le temps de faire cette constatation puisqu’il peut être difficile parfois pour les Grand(es) de le faire par eux-mêmes.   

J’ai récemment eu l’occasion de m’entretenir avec une mère (Sylvie*) qui m'a témoigné des changements qu’elle avait remarqués chez son fils (Joey*) après seulement quatre mois de parrainage par son Grand Frère…

 

 

Earlier this year, we asked you to share your wonderful stories of the impact that Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa has had on your life. Thank you to all who participated. We received a number of submissions from matches, Bigs and Littles as well as this winning entry from Colleen, the mother of Little Brother Devin. Here is her perspective:

J'adore le mentorat scolaire de Grands Frères Grandes Soeurs d'Ottawa (GFGSO)! Jumelés pour la deuxième année, mon Petit et moi nous entendons très bien: nos rencontres ne sont pas toujours loquaces, mais il y a ces petits moments de grande complicité qui valent la peine de poursuivre la relation.

Certains individus considèrent le mercredi comme une journée ennuyant puisque ce n'est ni le début, ni le fin de la semaine. Ce n'est pas le cas pour moi, une étudiante en stage au Grands Frères Grandes Sœurs d'Ottawa. C'est une journée remplit de sourire, de souvenir et d'activités amusants ! Voici mon histoire comme Grande Sœur pour le programme de mentorat scolaire.

Michelle is a 3^rd year student of the Bachelor of Social Work program at Carleton University. As part of the program, students are required to complete a certain amount of work hours at a placement. Michelle's considers herself fortunate to have started her placement at BBBSO last September. Read on to find out what she has been up to.

September is Big Brother Big Sister month and we are getting ready for some excitement! What makes this month so special is our Bigs and Littles connecting and creating friendships. Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa (BBBSO) has been offering placements to students from various programs as Algonquin College, La Cité Collégiale, University of Ottawa, and Carleton University for many years. We have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful students.

Chelsey Larocque is a 2^nd year student from the Social Service Worker program at Algonquin College. Since September 2008, Chelsey has spent three days a week with us as a placement student. Read on to find out what Chelsey has been doing and how she feels about her placement.

Dianne Laporte has been actively involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa (BBBSO) for 30 years. From a Board Member, to being a Big Sister with two Littles and now a blogger, her commitment to BBBSO is evident as you read her story.
