For the past nine years, BBBSO has hosted a week long day camp for our Littles called Kids n’ Kops where we partner up with the RCMP 'A' Division, Ottawa Police Service, Military Police, and Ottawa Fire Department...
Members from each police service became camp counselors to the Littles where some fantastic mentoring occurred as well as lots of laughs and fun times. The July 5th to 9th week was filled with ‘Kop’ activities that included visiting the downtown Ottawa Police station where the Littles met with the Identification and Tactical units; learning about boat safety while going for a tour on the Rideau river in RCMP and OPS police boats; putting out a mock fire in full fire fighting gear using an extremely powerful fire hose; target practice at the Connaught Range military facility training centre; swimming, and more! The police officers dressed in plain clothes from Monday to Thursday then on the Friday they dressed in their uniforms for the Little’s graduation that took place in the VIP section on Parliament Hill. It’s neat because some of the Littles are not aware and/or convinced that their ‘camp counselor’ is an actual police officer!
BBBSO would like to say a BIG thank you to Daniel Mulligan and Suzanne Lefort from RCMP, Det Sue Wright from the Ottawa Police Service, Cpl Blake Virgin, Cpl Cynthia Savard, Cpl Mathieu Dupuis, Master Seaman Reita Maltby, and Sgt Jonathan Pelletier from the Military Police, the Ottawa Fire Department, and to Brianne Wartman who is a Mentoring In School volunteer with us. This program would not be possible without your involvement!
