Go Girls from several eastern agencies were invited to spend a week at the Tim Horton's Camp in Tatamagouche Nova Scotia to learn about communication, self esteem, and to challenge themselves to overcome fears and obstacles.

 

Since September, our Mentoring Coordinators have been creating InSchool matches weekly. Bigs and Littles in this program meet up once a week over the school year. You may be asking yourself, how much of a difference can once a week make... well hear it from the kids.

 

Our matches always start with what I call the "blind date" meeting, or the "Match meeting" as it is actually called.  The reason that I call it the "blind date meeting" is because this meeting is the first time that a potential Big and Little get to meet to decide if the other person has the potential to be a good and lasting friend.  The parallels between a match meeting and blind date are amazing to me...

While we ask our volunteering in the traditional match program to establish their friendship for one year, we often have matches that last much longer. Ronald and Curtis are one of our graduated matches. During the graduation ceremony help last April, Ron also received a 10 year tenure award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.
